Report: Buccaneers Trade Mark Barron to the Rams

One major deal went down during the NFL trade deadline. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly sent former top-10 pick Mark Barron to the St. Louis Rams for a fourth and sixth round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Barron, who was the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, has started 37 of a possible 39 games in two-plus seasons with the Buccaneers.

In seven games with Tampa Bay this season, Barron recorded 39 tackles and three passes defended. He has three career interceptions with 19 passes defended.

The Rams have been in the market for an upgrade at the safety position for some time now. Barron will likely slot in as a starter immediately for the Rams. Some had concluded that he was playing out of position in Tampa Bay, something that shouldn’t be an issue in St. Louis.

This trade signifies an admission on the Buccaneers part that the selection of Barron was a major mistake. It’s also a representation that safeties shouldn’t be considered top-10 picks unless a generational talent is available. It’s quite obvious Barron isn’t that type of a talent.
