New York Jets Name Michael Vick Starting Quarterback

This isn’t too much of a surprise. New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced on Monday that veteran Michael Vick will get the start over a struggling Geno Smith next Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead.

Vick replaced Smith in the Jets lineup after the latter threw three first quarter interceptions on just eight pass attempts in a blowout 43-23 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The veteran then proceeded to throw two interceptions of his own, but was able to move the ball much more consistently than his younger counterpart.

At 1-7 on the season and losers of seven consecutive, the Jets obviously needed to make a move under center. It’s a bit too late to expect Vick to right the ship, especially considering his recent performances. But in reality, there is no way Ryan could have sent Smith out there against a hot Chiefs team on the road this upcoming week. That would have had disaster written all over it.
