Michael Vick: Harvin Won’t be a Monster Here

New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick has some experience with facing a crossroads in his NFL Career. He was once cast-off as nothing more than a thug off the field and a bad teammate in the locker room. He has grown from that experience and matured a great deal in recent seasons.

The veteran can offer some guidance to new teammate Percy Harvin, who was traded to the Jets last week.

But Vick had one interesting term to desribe Harvin. A word that we don’t see thrown around a lot when it comes to NFL players (via New York Post).

He won’t be a monster here,” Vick told The Post. “He won’t be a monster here. I can assure all the fans of that … That won’t take place here.

Is Vick admitting to personal knowledge that Harvin caused issues at his previous two stops? That’s  question this one scribe would have pushed his way during this interview.

Jets starting quarterback Geno Smith expanded on Vick’s point.

I know it won’t be a problem with Percy being here while he’s here,” Smith said. “I guarantee Percy cleans his act up while he’s here. So we ain’t gonna have no problems … So Jets fans can relax and just enjoy what Percy’s gonna bring to the table.

Harvin was acquired from Seattle for a conditional sixth-round pick on Friday. Since the trade, a ton of reports have come out indicating that he got into fights with his former teammates in the Pacific Northwest and that the team simply didn’t see him as a part of the future.

As electric of a player Harvin might be, he has now been sent packing by two organizations in what is still a young career. It will be interesting to see how he matures in New York in the coming weeks and whether he’s ready to put the past behind him. And he’ll need all the help he can get from guys like Vick and Smith.
