Jimbo Fisher Ends Interview Abruptly After Winston Question

If Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher thought that the Jameis Winston controversy was going to come to an end following the team’s dramatic win over Notre Dame Saturday night, he’s going to be in for a rude awakening.

The Seminoles head man cut a media interview short on Monday after he was asked a question about Winston’s off-field issues (via CBS Sports).

Why is my reputation taking a hit? For backing a kid who has done nothing wrong?” Fisher said. “I don’t want to get into this. The questions weren’t supposed to be asked today. I’m done. I’m done.

There is no evidence available at this point to indicate that Winston took money for the many autographs that he apparently signed for a sports memorabilia company. He has yet to be charged in a sexual assault case stemming from an alleged situation back in 2012. But this doesn’t take into account a whole host of other off-field incidents that have plagued the Heisman Trophy winner over the last year or so.

In reality, the controversy surrounding Winston will not go away until he himself decides to leave Florida State for the National Football League. And for Fisher to assume that he should be off limits from answering questions about his quarterback, as Florida State’s head coach, is absolutely ridiculous.

It also doesn’t help that Fisher himself used terms like “dignity” and “class” when defining the Florida State football proram following their win on Saturday night. Based on ample evidence in recent weeks, he might want to take it a little easy there. At least, in order to quiet the media storm that has surrounded Tallahassee in recent weeks.
