Reports surfaced shortly after Game 1 of the World Series kicked off on Sunday night that St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras died in a car accident in his native Dominican Republic.
These reports have since been confirmed by Taveras’ agent Brian Mejia.

Such tragic news right here. Taveras, 22, was considered a top prospect for the Cardinals organization and appeared in 80 games for the big league club this season.
His family has also apparently confirmed the death.

It’s also being reported that Taveras’ girlfriend passed away in the accident.
There isn’t much more information we can provide here.
Our thoughts and prayers here at Sportsnaut go out to the Cardinals organization and the Taveras’ family.
