Assault Lawsuit Against Jerry Jones Dismissed

Reports surfaced early last month that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was being accused of sexual assault stemming from an incident back in 2009.

The time between this alleged assault and this news threw a ton of people for a loop. And for good reason, as five years in between seemed to be an issue from a justice standpoint.

Now comes this little piece of information. According to the Associated Press, the lawsuit against Jones has been dismissed by a judge in Texas. The reasoning behind said dismissal seemingly making more sense than the allegation itself (h/t Yahoo Sports).

A judge threw out a sexual assault lawsuit filed against Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Thursday, saying the claims were barred by Texas law limiting the time in which a case can be filed.

State District Judge Dale Tillery ruled that the allegations, even if true, fell outside the five-year statute of limitations for civil sexual assault case.

Jana Weckerly had previously accused Jones of grabbing at her genitals and forcing kisses on her. She also previously indicated that Jones and the Cowboys paid her “hush money.”

Immediately after Thursday’s ruling, Weckerly’s lawyer said his client did not receive any money from Jones or the Cowboys as part of the case coming to a conclusion.
