Robert Griffin III Carted Off the Field

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III just hasn’t been able to stay healthy since what was a stellar rookie campaign back in 2012.

The young quarterback went down with an injury early in Washington’s Week 2 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with what appears to be a serious left ankle injury.

Renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews was seen hovering around RGIII, who was carted off with a cast around his lower ankle.

Here is the injury as it happened.

Here is a report on the injury from CBS Sports.

The Redskins quarterback planted his left foot, appeared to have it collapse and bend inwards on him (making it look like a dislocation) and was lying face down on the sidelines for a lengthy time. He was eventually carted off and appeared to be wiping away tears while he was taken to the locker room.

Backup Kirk Cousins proceeded to throw a touchdown on his first pass of the game.

Outside of RGIII being out for the remainder of the game, there are no further updates here.

Update: 3:06 PM ET

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the concern is that RGIII suffered a dislocated ankle.

If confirmed, this will obviously keep the former No. 2 overall pick out for an extended period of time.

Update (3:40 PM ET): One of RGIII’s doctors chimed in on Twitter with information that most of us figured would be the case. The Redskins quarterback is likely done for the season.

Coming off an injury-plagued 2013 campaign, this is the last thing that the young quarterback needed. His future with the Redskins and as a starter in the NFL has to be in question at this point.
