Report: Procter & Gamble Pulls out of NFL Sponsorship

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, the corporate giant Procter & Gamble has pulled out of a major initiative with the National Football League that was supposed to take place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Procter & Gamble has pulled out of a major initiative with the NFL in light of recent off-field events, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

‎Procter & Gamble, on behalf of its Crest toothpaste brand, had worked with NFL approval to launch a significant, league-wide initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which it decided to cancel today after taking into account recent domestic issues in the league, sources said.

While not a major blow in the grand scheme of things, this just goes to show you how NFL sponsors are reacting to the entire domestic violence scandal that has plagued the NFL over the past month or so.

Based on this list by the NFLPA, the following are league sponsors under the umbrella of Procter & Gamble: CoverGirl, Duracell, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Old Spirce, Tide and Vicks.

It remains to be seen if the corporate giant plans on any further action in terms of its relationship with the NFL.

Sportsnaut focused on how sponsors need to stand up to the NFL in light of the entire domestic abuse scandal in an article earlier this month. Procter & Gamble was one of the companies we focused on. Interestingly enough, it decided to take a stand here.

It joins the likes of Nike and Anheuser-Busch as companies that have issued public statements and taken action against the league this month.
