Panthers Kick the Tires on Stephen Hill

In need of more receiver talent for quarterback Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers reportedly brought former New York Jets second-round pick Stephen Hill in for a workout on Monday.

Hill was released by the Jets as part of their final cuts over the weekend.

The former Georgia Tech product has been less-than-impressive in his two seasons in the NFL, recording just 45 receptions for less than 600 yards. He’s also caught less than 50 percent of the passes thrown in his direction with 10 drops in 92 targets.

With that said, Hill is still an uber-talented wide receiver. And if he can turn it around, whoever picks him up might very well be getting a gem.

After a plethora of losses this past offseason, the Panthers head into Week 1 with Kelvin Benjamin and Jerricho Cotchery as their two starting receivers. Veteran Jason Avant will come in on three-receiver sets. Needless to say, that’s not necessarily the most impressive group of receivers out there.
