Former FBI Director to Lead Ray Rice Investigation

Former FBI director Robert S. Mueller will lead an independant inquiry on how the National Football League handled the Ray Rice situation prior to the assault video being released on Monday.

This is a huge step for the league, as it attempts to fully disclose what happened at the league office between Rice’s February arrest on assault charges and when TMZ released the video of him beating his then fianceee Janay Palmer earlier this week.

This comes on the heels of Goodell denying that anyone at the league office saw the video and a contradictory report by the Associated Press that a league executive viewed it back in April.

The firestorm that this scandal has caused has led some to call for Goodell’s resignation, which is still a possibility pending the investigation.

Mueller served as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation under both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama Administrations from 2001-2013.

Here is the full statement from the NFL.
