Giants Prevail in Protest of Rain-Shortened Game

The San Francisco Giants have reportedly won their protest stemming from a rain-shortened loss to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. The game will now pick up in the bottom of the fifth with the Cubs up 2-0 prior to their schedule game on Thursday.

It’s the first time in 28 years that MLB has ruled in favor of a protest.

If you remember correctly, the grounds crew at Wrigley Field failed to get the tarp on in time during a rain delay on Tuesday evening. As we reported this morning, the end result of their mistake was a four and a half hour delay and eventual calling of the game in Chicago’s favor.

Bruce Bochy, who was less than happy about the decision early Wednesday morning, had this to say about MLB granting the Giants protest.

Currently 4.5 games out of first place in the NL West, the Giants couldn’t afford to drop a rain-shortened game to a last-place team without being given an opportunity to come back. They will now get that opportunity before the scheduled game with Chicago on Thursday evening.
