San Diego Chargers Release Former First-Round Pick Larry English

Former San Diego Chargers first-round pick Larry English was released by the team on Tuesday. In what has to be considered one of the biggest busts in recent franchise history, English started a total of nine games and recorded 11 sacks in five seasons with San Diego.

English, the 16th overall pick back in 2009, never lived up to his draft status in a disappointing career with the Chargers. English started five games and recorded 2.5 sacks last season. He became expendable when San Diego selected Jeremiah Attaochu in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft.

English was selected over fellow pass rusher Clay Matthews in the 2009 draft.
