Report: Tommy Milone Requests Trade from the A’s

When the Oakland Athletics acquired Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Chicago Cubs in early July, one of the trickle-down effects was the demotion of left-handed starter Tommy Milone.

It was somewhat of a surprising move considering that Milone was 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA on the season and had boasted a 6-0 record with a 2.46 ERA in 11 starts prior to his demotion from Triple-A Sacramento. Now relegated to the minors, Milone has reportedly requested that the A’s trade him (via Fox Sports).

Left-hander Tommy Milone has asked the club to trade him, major-league sources tell FOX Sports.

The report from Ken Rosenthal also suggests that Oakland has received interest in Milone’s services as the trade deadline nears.

It wouldn’t be a shock to see the starter moved at some point between now and the end of July. Oakland is said to be in the market for an upgrade at second base and exhausted its two biggest trade chips in the blockbuster deal with Chicago.

Milone, who is 32-22 with a 3.84 ERA in 78 career starts with Oakland, could provide another team with a strong semi-young arm for the stretch run this season and into the future. He’s under team control until 2018.
