Report: Stephen A. Smith Leaving ESPN Radio

In what could eventually lead to a complete breakup with ESPN, controversial media personality Stephen A. Smith is reportedly leaving ESPN Radio for a gig on SiriusXM radio.

This report by the NY Daily News goes on to indicate that Smith will be joining Mad Dog Radio, which is run by another controversial media personality in Chris Russo. Apparently, this is a match made in heaven for the two.

Remember, Smith drew criticism on Friday for his quotes about women’s roles in domestic violence issues. After these conterversial statements were made on ESPN’s First Take, Smith’s ESPN colleague Michelle Beadle took to Twitter to criticize Smith. And the entire spat took off from there.

The Daily News also reports that Smith’s new show will be in direct competition with the ESPN show that he currently co-hosts.

The sources said there was no consideration of pairing SAS with Russo. Smith’s new show will probably air from 1 p.m.-3 p.m., which will put him in direct competition with Ruocco on ESPN 98.7.

It remains to be seen whether this will impact Smith’s relationship with ESPN television and his often drama-filled conversations with Skip Bayless.

In any event, this is some rather big news.
