Report: Raiders in Talks with San Antonio About Potential Relocation

If you don’t believe that Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis is intent on moving the team from Northern California, this latest report by San Antonio Express-News might just change your mind. According to the outlet, Davis and two of his top deputies have recently met with officials in San Antonio to discuss a potential relocation of the franchise.

On July 18, Davis met with the officials, including Henry Cisneros, then-Mayor Julián Castro, City Manager Sheryl Sculley, Mario Hernandez of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, and both Richard Perez and David McGee, the president and chairman of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, respectively.

It had widely been expected that Davis would uproot the Raiders from Oakland to Los Angeles if he wasn’t able to get a stadium deal completed in the not-so-distant future. The addition of San Antonio in this scenario could very well mean that the Raiders are looking at multiple cities for potential relocation.

Technically, the Raiders lease at O.co in Oakland comes to an end following the 2014 season. This report goes on to indicate that the Alamodome could be ready for football by the 2015-2016 season, which would fit well in with what’s going on with the Raiders stadium issue in Oakland. Though, it must be noted that the Alamodome would be considered a short-term fix should the Raiders decide to relocate. In the end, they would want a new stadium.

Davis’ trip to San Antonio seemed to be a bit more than window shopping, as San Antonio Express-News indicated.

Davis and his associates reportedly spent two or three days here, visiting the Alamodome and other places. They also took an aerial tour of the city in a helicopter, arranged by developer Marty Wender.

This could get really interesting pretty quickly.
