Report: Mavericks Finalizing Deal with Jameer Nelson

The Dallas Mavericks are apparently in the verge of signing free agent point guard Jameer Nelson, who spent his first 10 seasons in the NBA with the Orlando Magic. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein a deal is likely going to get done during a visit on Thursday.

Nelson averaged 12.1 points and seven assists per game for the Magic last season. His best year came in 2008-2009, when the point guard made the Eastern Conference All-Star team and averaged nearly 17 points per outing.

Dallas sent its starter from the 2013-2014 campaign, Jose Calderon, to the New York Knicks earlier this offseason in a package that brought back Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler. It looks like this signing will at least create some competition for the starting point guard job, but based on previous production Nelson should have the inside track to start when the season gets going this fall.
