Panthers’ Cam Newton Still Limited Following Surgery

For the most part, Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton appears to be recovered from his offseason ankle surgery. However, some limitations were detected recently when Newton was practicing with his receivers.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Newton was limited in his mobility while practicing in Greensboro, North Carolina last week. However, it has been just slightly less than four months since Newton underwent what is considered a major surgery, so limitations at this point are to be expected.

Surprisingly, Newton’s surgery is a story that has flown somewhat under the radar in the offseason, perhaps because Newton was able to participate in some seven-on-seven drills back in mid-June. Additionally, all of the changes in the team’s offensive line and a complete swap in the wide receiver department has taken the spotlight off of Newton’s recovery.

As mobile of a quarterback as Newton is, leading the NFL in quarterback rushing yards last year with 585, it is critical that his ankle heals 100 percent. This is definitely something observe as training camp and preseason games take place. With a rusty bunch of veteran receivers at Newton’s disposal, he’s going to have to rely upon those feet more than ever this year.
