Packers, Jordy Nelson Agree to Four-Year, $39 Million Extension

So much for there being the distraction of a contract dispute at Green Bay Packers training camp. Star wide receiver Jordy Nelson has agreed to a four-year, $39 million extension that includes a $11.5 million signing bonus. The two sides were able to come to this agreement after Green Bay’s first practice (via NFL.com).

Nelson, one of the best overall receivers in the NFL, had been vastly underpaid in the past. In what amounted to his agent dropping the ball, Nelson signed a three-year, $12.6 million extension back in October of 2011. He ended that season putting up over 1,200 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.

Despite the fact that Aaron Rodgers missed seven games due to injury last season, Nelson was still able to record 85 receptions for 1,314 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s, without any doubt, Rodgers favorite target in the passing game.

Now that Nelson is in the mix long term, the Packers can focus on extending Randall Cobb, who is set to be a free agent following this upcoming season.
