Veteran New York Giants offensive lineman Chris Snee is expected to announce his retirement from the National Football League on Monday. Snee, a second-round pick out of Boston College back in 2004, has started 141 games in 10 seasons with the Giants.

It’s an absolutely huge blow to the Giants offensive line this late in the offseason. As ESPN points out, the Giants boasted a 63.7 QBR with Snee on the field over the past five seasons compared to a 37.7 QBR with him sidelined.
Snee missed all but three games last season due to injuries, which could be one of the reasons New York’s offensive line struggled so much in front of quarterback Eli Manning.
Former Miami Dolphins draft pick John Jerry is currently listed as Snee’s primary backup at right guard. Other current interior offensive line options on the roster include James Brewer and Brandon Mosley.
Snee, who is married to Tom Coughlin’s daughter, simply couldn’t handle the injuries that have plagued him in recent seasons. At 32, he retires relatively early for such a productive offensive lineman.
