This is probably the first and only time that anyone will ever compare former Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan to a girlfriend. And in this case, he’s the ugly ex that you moved on from when you realized she didn’t have much of a personality either.
According to the Washington Post, Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss compared their coaching switch to getting a new girlfriend.
When it’s new, everything is all good…At the end of the day, it’s new. It’s just like getting that new girlfriend. You had the old one and she got on your nerves. The new one ain’t gonna get on your nerves until down the road. When it’s new, everything is all good.
It remains to be seen how long the Jay Gruden honeymoon might last, but it’s readily apparent that fans in D.C. are expecting the Redskins to return to 2012 form when they earned the NFC East title and a playoff spot.
If Gruden fails to utilize Washington’s top-tier weapons like he did last season as the Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator (see Giovani Bernard), the honeymoon may very well be short lived.
