Philadelphia 76ers Potentially Willing to Part with Thaddeus Young

The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly working extremely hard to move up to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft to select former Kansas swingman Andrew Wiggins.

According to ESPN Insider Chad Ford, the Sixers are not willing to part with both of their top-10 picks in order to move up to the No. 1 spot. Instead, there is a possibility that they would move former lottery selection Thaddeus Young in a potential trade-up scenario.

There is a chance Wiggins could be selected by Cleveland or Milwaukee in the first two selections and to make sure those teams don’t get the player the Sixers might try to move up via a trade.

The 2014 NBA draft includes three potential No. 1 picks in Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid and Wiggins. If the Sixers are sold on Wiggins being heads and shoulders above Parker and don’t want to risk Embiid’s injury concerns, this could be a real possibility.

For the Cavaliers, this would also be a dream scenario. They’d be able to move down just two spots, pick up a stellar young player in Young and still be able to choose between Embiid and Parker. Young tallied 17.9 points and six rebounds per game for Philadelphia this past regular season.

According to other reports, Philadelphia has indeed called Cleveland about the first pick. This is an indication that a potential deal may be past the point of simple Internet rumors.
