New York Giants: Phil Simms Weighs in on Eli Manning

Not to beat a dead horse, as the saying goes, but we must be reminded of how awful New York Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning was in 2013, throwing 27 interceptions compared to 18 touchdowns. Fomer New York Giants Super Bowl winning quarterback Phil Simms weighed in on Manning learning a new offense and his outlook for 2014.

This is for you Giants fans, as Simms had some words of encouragement to share, (via NFL.com).

I don’t think it’s going to be tough for him, Simms said. It’s going to be new information, a new way to do things, but there will be a lot of the same plays that every offense runs, and there will be a new voice telling him and different ways of running those plays.

I would think this will make it easier on Eli because it will be a more quarterback-friendly system, Simms said. I have great respect for Kevin Gilbride winning two Super Bowls. He was worried about hitting four of those big passes every game, and I love that about the Giants’ offense. It wasn’t 17 screens every game.

New offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo will have the team learning a West Coast offense this season. I wish Manning, who does have two Super Bowl MVP titles from 2007 and 2011, and the Giants better success in 2014.
