Buffalo Bills’ Sammy Watkins and E.J. Manuel Still Building Trust

Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins explains that he and second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel are still working on building trust with each other.

Even though Watkins was drafted with a higher pedigree than fellow receiver Robert Woods, the latter  is working more fluently with Manuel. In an interview with Alex Flanagan of NFL Total Access, Watkins had this to say regarding his work with Manuel thus far over the offseason.

It’s not fully there. I mean, we’ve been connecting at minicamp, and OTAs. But at the same time, I could be wide open, and if he don’t feel it, or if I run it a different type of way, he won’t throw the ball.

So it really just got to come with him believing in me. I believe in him. He can throw just about any ball. So it just comes down to … we just need a lot of reps.

According to Watkins, who is an early favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year, he isn’t exactly thinking that that he will be breaking any records his first season. Watkins further commented..

I think we have enough players for me not to think I need to have 1,500 yards receiving.

Fortunately for Watkins, he and Manuel still have plenty of time to work on their rapport in upcoming training camps. If things keep progressing between the two, Watkins should handily pass Woods and become Manuel’s go-to guy.

For those of us who play fantasy football, we will want to monitor Watkins’ chemistry with Manuel to see approximately where he should be drafted.
