Rolando McClain Not Impressive In Workout With The Ravens

Rolando McClain, who is looking to make a comeback in the National Football League after getting his life straight off the field, worked out for the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the former top-10 pick, reports indicate that the workout didn’t go too well.

For someone who consistently struggled with conditioning as a member of the Oakland Raiders before retiring last year, this isn’t necessarily great news for McClain. It must, however, be noted that most of McClain’s focus off the field has been to rebound from legal issues and get his house back in order. With that said, the former Alabama All-American has been spending time over the past few months getting into football shape. Not being able to complete the conditioning drill is a major setback for McClain.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had the following to say about McClain last month, via ESPN…

To me, it all depends on a couple things. Who [is he] as a person right now? Has he grown up….He had a lot of growing up to do obviously. And how hard he’s working, how hard he’s working at Alabama right now. If he’s working his rear end off, then I’m kind of excited about him. If he’s not, then I’ve got no interest in him being on our team.

That wasn’t necessarily a resounding statement of support for McClain, who was arrested for disorderly conduct last April, just a few weeks after the Ravens signed him to a one-year, prove it deal, via Whnt.com.

If McClain’s workout failure was a result of him not being up to snuff from a conditioning standpoint, that plays right into Harbaugh’s quotes from last month. Unfortunately for the linebacker, he is under a microscope because of all the off-field issues he was involved in prior to attempting to turn his life around. We can’t say this was McClain’s last chance, but he is definitely running out of football lives.
