The Most ‘Googled’ Athlete In Each State

ESPN must have a lot of time on its hands as we power towards the NFL draft. The “sports leader” just posted an article that focuses on the most Googled athlete in each state. In an absolute stunner, LeBron James finds himself atop the list in nearly half the states in these United States of America.

Let’s take a look at some highlights, as we show you we also have some extra time on our hands.

Geno Smith Gets Love in West Virginia

Geno is one of them. Okay, maybe not.

Geno is one of them. Okay, maybe not.

What a pretty sad sports state you must be if your most-Googled (is that a word) athlete is Geno freaking Smith. We wonder whether Smith deciding to go glorious mullet on us might endure himself to the West Virgninia native even more. Next up, he stars in the Broadway hit “Geno Got Your Gun.”

Andrew Wiggins Leads the Way in Kentucky

Surprise, surprise. Wiggins, who will likely be one of the first two picks in the 2014 NBA draft this upcoming June, is the most-Googled athlete from the great state of Kentucky. The competition here? David Akers and Dwane Casey. In all seriousness, where does Kentucky native Muhammed Ali rank on this list? Then again, how many people can actually spell that name? Thank the heavens for autocorrect, right?

Romo Loses Out to Johnny Manziel

This might be a first, but it’s highly unlikely to be a last. Manziel, who hasn’t even stepped on to a football field as a NFL player, is already more Google popular (is that a thing?) than the quarterback for “America’s Team” (yes those are air quotes you see there). Though, it is possible that about half of those searches are from Manziel himself. We all know Johnny loves himself some Johnny.

The other half are likely from Jerry Jones, who is going to select Manziel in the upcoming draft immediately after he (Jones) visits the nearest gloryhole. What does this mean for Romo? Hey at least, new Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick didn’t pass Romo on the list. That would be pretty sad.

Is Manti Te’o Real? Hawaii Seems to Think So

This probably has a lot to do with Hawaiin’s drinking a variation of different Mai tai cocktails and loading up on some of that wacky tobacky we all know they love on the island. For those of you who grew up before the Internet age, just think about how you would have spent your formative teenage years browsing the Internet. Probably similar to what those on the island are doing as I type this. But I digress.

Then again, what else is there in terms of sports in Hawaii? The Warriors athletic program? Preseason basketball between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors? The Pro Bowl? Surely, Te’o beats the heck out of all that.

Vermont is Tiger Country

Don’t ask questions, just enjoy the randomness of it all. Vermont is Tiger country, ladies/gents. Which brings me to a serious question…

Is this a dream?
